Mom and Dads 4 day get-a-way

We needed a break. We needed some time to each other. We needed to laugh at grown up jokes and have adult conversations. We talked about the kids for maybe 30 minutes on the drive there and then i made us promise we wouldn't just talk about the kids. They were fine. I did call them every evening to hear about their day. But this trip, was for us. We ventured down to San Antonio for 3 nights and 4 days. Did a lot of eating out. A little bit of drinking and a little bit of shopping and a lot of sight seeing. We went for a 12 hour concert that was on Saturday. We had a blast. It felt good to get away. It had been 5 years since our last solo vacation. And we made a promise to each other to do this once a year. Now that the kids are getting older we will do this. It gave us time to reconnect with each other and just be. No interruptions. No kid bickering. No extra luggage and less bathroom breaks! I cant wait until our next vacation together....we already have a destination in mind!

I do it

Since he could talk he has had a certain Independence about him. "I do it". I loved it when his little voice would say those words. Even though he sometimes had no clue what he was doing. Or he wanted to lend a helping hand with me, I have always admired that he was a hands on learner . Now that he is 4 he really doesn't need much help getting dressed. I still stay present just in case he needs my help. "I do it all by myself" are the words he says now. It makes me a little sad that he doesn't need me for everything now. "I'm hungry" are words I hear alot from him. So I tell him find something to eat and I will help you make it. I let him put the snack ideas together. He can open the fridge. He can open the pantry. Where did September GO?!

My son was looking at the calendar the other day. Trying to count how many days to Halloween, he turns around and looks at me and says...."Where the heck did September GO?!" I laughed and said you are too young to worry about where the time is going! But yea I have no idea where it went. It seems like my post here lately is dwelling on where all the time went. Its definitely going by fast! And it doesn't help when every other post on Facebook is counting down to Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas! Geez people can we just get thru the first 6 weeks of school?! Speaking of school i have a a rant about the system. Or the lack there of anyway: I remember being disciplined in school. If I broke a rule I was sent to the office where my mom was already waiting for me. (Didn't help that she worked at my elementary school) but still.
