Mommy Merit Badges

FIRST AID BADGE: You never know when a boo-boo will strike. Playground, grocery store, Dr's office, front yard...you just never know. I have the typical "getcha cleaned up and back outside" kit in the bathroom, but I'm not the mom that carries the alcohol wipes, band-aids, gauze, Tylenol, OFF, or the key chain neosporin with me. I do however at this exact moment have a few Germ-X wipes in my purse only because we went to the petting zoo the other day and EWWW...zebra and donkey spit mixed with goat and cow snot is gross! Even if you are a farmers son! So I need to work on this badge. You can bet that if we were somewhere though I will snap a picture of said boo-boo!!
LULLABY BADGE: "Tinkle tinkle little staaaar" is at the top of his list right now. But what about all the other ones? Itsy Bitsy Spider, Rock a bye baby..the list goes on. At any given moment I can burst out in song. (thank goodness these aren't given for vocal...cause I has NONE) I will admit I forget the words to some of them but hey he still dances along-So I've earned this one!
NUTRITION BADGE: He's almost 22 months old so it's safe to say that he doesn't always eat as well or as much as he should. I've said before some days are better than others. He eats and eats most of the time and then there are times goldfish and milk hold him together. Yesterday however, shortly after he woke up at 10:15am, we had leftover pizza and an hour later had a Dr Pepper float. O come on! That doesn't sound good? My organic garden has failed me this year! But today he ate 1 1/2 apples, half a sandwich, a baked potato, lemonade and cereal. So as far as this one goes I too have earned it because last night for dinner he ate 2 chips and 3 beans....and as aggravating as it is....i know he will catch up the next day.
MEMORY MAKER BADGE: If you know me, you know I have a camera in hand or in reach. "I am a picture taking fool!" I once told someone. I want the kids to know how great things were and how much fun we had. Its for all the times we may forget about and the times they are to young to remember. I have boxes of photos, a few photo albums on my bookshelf, and files upon files on the computer. Everyone knows a moment in their lives will not go unnoticed with me and my camera around. :)

GRAIN OF SALT BADGE: I myself cant stand the "O my kid did that too, only better" spill that I have gotten alot of over the past 22 months. Or the "you should do it this way" and the "I never did that with my kid(s) and they are fine" crap. Well actually your child isn't...o wait this is about Mommy Merit Badges not foul mouth mommy rants. I've learned to just let things go in one ear and out the other. I try not to be the bragger, because well other kids have their moments too!!

The torture. The madness

I try. I try to make food last. I try to stick to a grocery budget and sometimes ( more than I'd like) I fail. I'm slowly getting better at buying the important stuff in bulk. Our main meats. Beef. Chicken. Pork. I can stretch that out for months. The big things of Sunny D last about 3 weeks....etc you get the idea. The worst thing I could possibly do is go to Sams on a Saturday afternoon. WHY?? WHY do I do that to myself? It's not like I'm that busy Monday thru Friday! O well lesson learned. When I do go back it will be on a Tuesday morning....a few months from now!

New School Year

The new year is upon us all. The kids and I are glad to have our routines and schedules back in full swing. I don't think the transition phased dad one bit :) I have had a hard time adjusting to my time at home. Jaxon is going all day now and that leaves me with 7 hours of uninterrupted time. Time to get things done for my photography business. Time to clean the house. Time to organize closets and do the things that I neglected over the summer. I feel lost with out him in the afternoons. I just hope he's missing me as well :) Jessie wasn't as excited to go back to school. In her world summer would last until Christmas and Christmas break would end in May. But it is a bittersweet year for her. She's the big 5th grader and it's her last year at the school she has known since the 1st grade. A lot of friends will be going separate ways come next year when they enter Middle School. She will be taking on the violin this year. She is maturing and grow...

I do it

Since he could talk he has had a certain Independence about him. "I do it". I loved it when his little voice would say those words. Even though he sometimes had no clue what he was doing. Or he wanted to lend a helping hand with me, I have always admired that he was a hands on learner .     Now that he is 4 he really doesn't need much help getting dressed. I still stay present just in case he needs my help. "I do it all by myself" are the words he says now. It makes me a little sad that he doesn't need me for everything now.     "I'm hungry" are words I hear alot from him. So I tell him find something to eat and I will help you make it. I let him put the snack ideas together. He can open the fridge. He can open the pantry. So he can grab whatever his little heart desires.     Here he is with minimal help from me making a peanut butter sandwich. "Watch me mom" are the words I hear when he does something a...
