When I was your age....

It's funny because I ran across this article about the gadgets kids have these days and the things they will not know existed....or even how they worked. A month or so ago I say to Josh..."Kids these days will never know what watching a TV with antennas will be like or how to rewind a cassette tape." Part of my childhood we had a TV we turned on with a set of pliers and would have to adjust the antennas depending on what channel we were watching out of the 5 we had. Caller ID didn't exist. Walkmans were huge!! You researched homework in an encyclopedia. You recorded shows on a VHS. There was actually a time before "reality TV". You never had the want or need to know what your friends were doing every minute of their day. You actually had to remember someones phone number. Neat Handwriting. Swimming pools with diving boards. Waiting for the #1 hit in the movies to make it to TV. Hershey bars in silver wrappers. Having to manually unlock car doors. Playing outside until dinner time. Tuning a radio to find your favorite station. Using a road atlas. Phone books. Shopping during normal business hours...and only Monday thru Saturday. Developing your film and waiting days to get your pictures.

These are only a few things I can remember ....that won't ever be the same again. It really makes me understand better when my dad would tell me about how things have changed since he was a kid and now that I have a son I'm amazed at the things that have changed and the things he will never know existed. The things that he will one day make fun of me for..."you had to rewind a what to listen to music?.....you had to put a big tape in a what to record your show?"...i can hear it now!! And to that I will reply..."when I was your age..."

Z and I have had alot of "When I was your age" moments. The most memorable one was when we were in someone's garage helping them move - and there was a box of records there. I picked one case up to look at it and showed him the picture (it was Grease) and I told him I used to have that record. I pulled it out of the case and showed it to him. He looked up at me with big eyes and a look of wonder and said, "That must have been a REALLY BIG cd player!" I had to explain...

He's making a list....

The BIG TOY BOOKS arrived in the newspaper a few weeks ago. Let's just say he knows how to catalog shop! He knew what pages to go to that had toys for him. Anything Spiderman is topping his list right now. He will sit and watch the Spiderman movie and not move. Not the cartoon either...the movie with Toby Maguire. He would come across the pages that had the barbies and doll houses and anything pink and point at them and yell "JESSIE!!" So I am glad he knows what she likes because she changes her mind every 5 minutes. We will be shopping soon and from the very worn out toy book he has carried with him for the past few weeks now. He points at 3 things every time he opens the book from Wal-Mart...so i know he means business. And the 50" flat screen that he points at and yells "DAAAADDDY" well sorry for your luck son.

LOOK! LISTEN!

He looks so big sitting on this little truck. The little truck that plays the most annoying music in the house. I am a weird mom! I refuse to remove any batteries from any toy that we buy him or that he receives as a gift. They are musical and educational and he loves to dance to the songs. So I will not take that from him....but its still annoying nonetheless.... Anyway...I am so proud of how fast he learns to do everything and that he is as independent as his little self can be. He loves to listen to the 2 songs on this little truck. Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Do You Know the Muffin Man are constantly playing. He is a big boy now. He isn't my little baby bundled up anymore......

Happy Birthday!

My little sister is 35 years young today!  Happy Happy Birthday to the best little sister I could ask for! Love you!
